Student guest blog post by Kaci P.
Have you ever heard of the Florida Keys? You might be thinking “What are the Florida Keys?” or “Do you mean car keys?” Well they are a little bigger than car keys! The Florida Keys are more than 1,700 (800 named) islands at the tip of Florida! Key west is 33 miles long and is the southernmost point of the continental United States. It is also the most touristy place in the keys. 42 bridges connect many islands from Key Largo to Key West. Well let's dive into the main reason for this blog. These are the top three things to do in the Florida Keys!
The Beach
The first thing I would recommend is going to the beach! There are so many different beaches in the Florida Keys but let's focus on some of our favorite beaches that we have been to. The first beach I would recommend is obviously the one right outside of Sea Isle Condo #9
It is such a pretty beach and has such beautiful landscaping. It's such a good place to pull up a chair and tan with a great view. One of our other favorite beaches is actually a state park called Bahia Honda. It's such a beautiful beach. It's a perfect place to pull up a rented boat and get ice cream. They have very nice facilities there such as outdoor showers and restrooms. You can also walk up on the old 7 mile bridge - a perfect place to watch the sunset! I would definitely recommend it!
Scuba Diving
Another thing I would definitely recommend doing in the Keys is scuba diving! My favorite dive shop in the Florida Keys is called Key Dives. They are located in Islamorada (about a 45 min drive from the condo). I have personally booked so many dives with them and each time I am absolutely amazed at how kind they are. Every dive I've gone on with them is even better than the last! If you are interested in learning how to dive, here's the course I used PADI Scuba Diving Education and Training!
Restaurants
The restaurants in the Keys are unquestionably astounding. Here are some of our favorite restaurants in the Keys! The closest restaurant is Key Colony Inn Restaurant it is within walking distance of Sea Isle Condo #9. They have the best Italian food on the island!
Personally my favorite restaurant that I have been to in the Keys is the Florida Keys Steak and Lobster House. They have the absolute best dessert I've ever had. The sushi there is to die for! If you're looking for a restaurant with a fantastic water view I would definitely recommend The Island Fish Co.They have the best view by the water and if you rent a boat you can drive it right up to dock at the restaurant!
To conclude this blog about the Top 3 Things You Can Do in The Florida Keys, I'll just share my personal experience with our condo. When we first got the condo I was so amazed by it, there would always be (and still are) so many fish at the beach, conchs, and hermit crabs! One time we even saw a goliath grouper! This got me thinking “Well if I'm so amazed by these little things by our condo how would I feel if I got to do these things every day as a career?” So I did a little research here and there. I found a major called Marine Biology and I said “Wow I would be able to do these things every day.” And that's the short story on how I found what I wanted my future to be like by going to the Keys! Of course, I still have several years left until graduation.
Here are some pictures of me diving with Key Dives!
